3 lakh go for Aadhaar

SHILLONG:  Over 3 lakh citizens in Meghalaya have enrolled for Aadhaar so far.In a statement issued here, the regional office of the Unique Identification Authority of India in Guwahati said as on Thursday “the Aadhaar generation status is that 3,60,924 persons have enrolled”. The break up of registration is Shillong 193718, Tura 45332, Nongstoin 47253, Nongpoh 21555, William-nagar 19767, Jowai 17186, Ampati 9702, Khlieh-riat 3040, Mawkyrwat 2497, Resubelpara 500 and Bagh-mara 374. The statement further said that the enrolment centres for capturing the demographic and biometric information of residents have been set-up mainly at Block & DC offices so that it would be convenient for villagers to register names for Aadhaar. Some districts are conducting Aadhaar enrolment in camp mode to reach out to the people living in remote areas and also to cover schoolchildren.The enrolment in all the areas of Meghalaya is expected to be started by the end of this month and the State Government is making efforts to enrol maximum number of residents by the year end as most government and other services such as benefits, subsidies       and services like PAN, GST, bank accounts, passport, land records, property registration and others will require Aadhaar numbers.
As per Section 7 of the Aadhaar Act, 2016, the Centre or States may use Aadhaar as an identifier for delivery of various subsidy/benefit/services to the residents.
“Enrolment for Aadhaar is free of cost for all residents. To locate one’s nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre, one can access https://appointments.uidai.gov.in/easearch.aspx. For more information, one can contact on 0361-2228080 or Toll free No. 1947,” the official said.
