Shillong: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Thursday laid the foundation stone for Science & Commerce College at a function held at Sacred Grove, Mawphlang in the presence of local MLA and parliamentary secretary, Kennedy Khyriem.
Addressing the gathering, Sangma said that the establishment of the institution at Mawphlang is the launching of new initiatives in the field of education and of having a dedicated centre for Science and Commerce in the state.
Such educational centres in rural areas will control urban migration as there is a trend of students migrating to cities in search of better education, Sangma said adding that Hima Mawphlang has donated 20 acres of land for the college.
