SHILLONG: The State Cabinet has approved appointment of HM Arengh as the new Secretary of the Meghalaya Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister RC Laloo said Arengh was appointed after the former secretary retired.
The Cabinet also approved the rules of the ‘Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act 2013’.
The rules were published earlier and were waiting for the Cabinet’s nod.
With regard to the renaming of a village, Laloo said the existing village of Sonapahar has been proposed to be renamed as Mawshynrut.
On the amendment to the Meghalaya Essential Services Maintenance Act to include the services namely ground handling services of the airport falling under the jurisdiction of the state, Laloo said the Civil Aviation Ministry has released the new National Civil Aviation Policy.
A letter from the ministry, which the minister read out, stated that an integrated policy has been brought out to make regional air connectivity a reality. The policy aims to make flying affordable and convenient.
“Among the points envisaged in the policy is that the central government will coordinate with the state governments to include ground handling under the Essential Services Maintenance Act, 1968,” Laloo said.
“It is requested that the state government may urgently consider the inclusion of ground handling at the airport under the ‘Essential services maintenance Act’ in the state,” he added.
