MHIS-III elicits very good response

SHILLONG: The phase III of the   Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) is being well received by the people of the state given that claims worth more than Rs 4 crore have been made by the patients in a short span of time.

Sources said that people were coming forward in large numbers to utilise the MHIS services with more than 3.40 lakh households in the state had been already enrolled under the phase III of the scheme.

The target is to enroll 8.86 lakh households and the enrollment would continue till September 30.

When asked about the grievances redressal mechanism, sources said that the Governments website had a tool for redressal mechanism. Besides that, people can also lodge grievances through the toll free number.

When asked about the hospitals covered so far, sources said that 100 per cent hospitals in the state had been brought under the ambit of MHIS

The insurance cover under the phase III of MHIS has been increased from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 2.8 lakh. The MHIS this year also has an additional senior citizen cover of Rs 30,000.

Earlier, the government had signed an MoU with New India Assurance Company to roll out its enhanced phase-III of MHIS for nearly 30 lakh people.

MHIS-III has been designed to fully integrate with the existing public health system in the State and will also significantly expand the number and quality of specialty and super specialty hospitals empaneled under the scheme.
