SHILLONG: The Centre has earmarked Rs 10.9 crore for strengthening of statistical schemes in the state.
Speaking on the topic, Union Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation DV Sadananda Gowda said, “Meghalaya is one of the states which have now initiated the process of strengthening statistical schemes.”
“After necessary consultations with the line department, the State Government is coming up with a proposal and after looking into the proposal, the State Government will enter into an MoU with the Central Government,” he said after reviewing the progress of the schemes of the statistics department here on Thursday.
According to Gowda, the State Government would take care of the areas from where statistical data is required to be collected.
Calling for coordination between the State and the Centre, Gowda further stated that the MoU will be signed within two months.
He added that the statistical data is important for policy formation and its implementation and added that transparency and administration can be achieved only if ground realities are brought to the notice of the Centre.
