Govt pleader clarifies on cheating case
SHILLONG: R. Jana Nongbet, the government pleader of East Jaintia Hills, has criticized Kerlang Ksoo, assistant public prosecutor cum assistant government pleader for flouting rules.In response to the bail application moved by Smen Kyndait, an accused in several cheating cases, Nongbet clarified that the matter was not routed through his office “as is the practice and hence it was not within my knowledge”.He said Ksoo was only an assistant government pleader.
Water Supply Scheme inaugurated
SHILLONG: Public Health Engineering (PHE), Celestine Lyngdoh inaugurated the Water Supply Scheme at Pynthorbah and Lumshyiap on Friday. Speaking at the gathering, he said that people of the area will get water in abundance after the implementation of the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme Phase III.He asserted that disregard to the environment by humans has destroyed the streams and rivers.
Essay and short film competition organised by NCC (NER)
Shillong: National Cadet Corps Directorate (North Eastern Region) organised an essay and short film competition on the topics ‘What can I do for a clean India’ and ‘My contribution towards making India clean’ in pursuance of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Approximately 40,000 cadets from eight NCC covering all eight northeastern states participated with passion and enthusiasm and came up with compelling ideas and suggestions towards making India a cleaner place.
Workshop on gender and disaster management held
Nongstoin: A one-day workshop on “Gender and Disaster Management, Emergency Education and First Aid” for Officials/Teachers/Child Care Institutions /CBOs/NGOs/Multi Purpose Rehabilitation Workers located in Nongstoin was organised by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Nongstoin on Friday at TRYSEM Hall, DC’s Complex. The objective of the training programme is to acquaint the participants on gender issues in disaster management and the need for emergency education. The programme was inaugurated by Molvareen Langstieh , Asst Professor, Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute ,Shillong who was also the resource person for the workshop. She spoke on gender issues to be considered in the whole gamut of disaster management activities and also emphasize on the importance of emergency education in providing quality education, through both formal and informal methods which is a vital humanitarian consideration.
Review meeting on Disaster Management
Ampati: A review meeting of all the district heads of offices in South West Garo Hills in connection with Disaster Management was convened by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) at Ampati DRDA conference hall on Thursday.Chairing the meeting, Addl. Deputy Commissioner (Revenue & Disaster Management), M.T. Sangma, reminded the responsibilities of the district officers with a stress on coordinated approach in disaster response. As responsible officers, they must report any natural disaster that occur in their respective areas within 24 hours of occurrence, she said.
Orientation prog for MLCU students for academic year 2017-18
Shillong: Martin Luther Christian University on Friday officially welcomed its new batch of students for the academic year 2017- 2018 at the orientation programme held at Madan Mawarling Umpling, Dong Shaneng Shillong. A total of 558 new students have enrolled for the different courses in the different departments of the university. Skits on Experiential Learning by the students of the Department of Social Work and on Evaluation and Policies by the Department of Management and Commerce Studies were presented during the Orientation with the aim to expose the new students to all the different aspects of the university.
Interactive session with VC of Central University of Sikkin held
SHILLONG: Goreto Socio-Cultural & Welfare Society, Lower Jail Road, Shillong organised an ”Interaction Session” with Dr. Mahendra P. Lama, Vice Chancellor of Central University of Sikkim on Thursday at Shillong Club. A.L.Hek, MLA, Pynthorumkhrah was also present on the occasion as guest of honour. Dr. Lama, who was also pro-vice chancellor of IGNOU. He emphasised on the importance of education in today’s scenario.
Awareness cum registration camp for construction workers organised
Shillong: A one-day awareness cum registration Camp for the Muster- Rolls of eight Divisions in East Khasi Hills of Public Health Engineering Department, Government of Meghalaya was held on Friday at the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides headquarters, Shillong. The programme was organised by the Office of the Chief Engineer, PHE in collaboration with the Office of the Deputy Labour Commissioner, East Khasi Hills under the Meghalaya Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board. Minister of Labour Dr. M. Ampareen Lyngdoh attended the programme as the Chief Guest. In her inaugural address, she said that construction workers and muster rolls of works department should carry out their works with dignity and pride and the Labour Department has a scheme called the Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Scheme for registration of construction workers and to provide health and other welfare benefits to them and their immediate family members.
Combined medical camps conducted by BSF and BGB
Shillong: The Border Security Force of India and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB)organised a two-day combined medical camp on August 24 at war memorial Killapara (India), under Sector Tura and on August 25 at Bangladesh Custom office, Nakugaon. Specialist doctors from BSF, BGB and Civil doctors of Tura were present in the medical camp. They carried out medical checkup of more than 550 local people. Free medicines were also distributed. Besides blood test on blood sugar, Hepatitis B, Hemoglobin, Malaria, Blood Grouping were also carried out during the medical camp.
BSF seizes cattle
Shillong: On Thursday, the troops of Border Security Force foiled the attempt of smugglers to transport cattle outside international border and seized 77 cattle at zero line. The BSF troops deployed at Tuka, East Khasi Hills district launched a special operation and prevented 34 number of cattle being smuggled to Bangladesh. Lyngkhat is a notorious place for cattle smuggling in East Khasi Hills. In this area 15 cattle were seized by the Troopers of BSF while being smuggled to Bangladesh. In another incident, the BSF troops deployed at Nayabazar, also in East Khasi Hills seized 26 cattle while being smuggled to Bangladesh. In the same area two days ago 24 oxens loaded in three trucks were seized from a truck for smuggling to Bangladesh. All the seized items were handed over to concern department for further legal action.
World Honey Bee Day celebrated
Dalu: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), West Garo Hills celebrated World Honey Bee Day on August 19 at Marapara under Dalu Block of West Garo Hills District. There are about ten (10) honey bee beneficiaries from three different villages viz Marapara, Sananggre and Rongbokgre under the direct guidance of KVK. Interested farmers from the nearby villages like Noranggre, Rongbokgre and Babugre attended the programme. Feed back from the beneficiaries rearing honey bee was also recorded.
