TURA: In the wake of the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner issuing prohibitory orders against attempts made by self-styled Tura Nokma, Bernard N Marak to run his own ‘Nokma’ office and issue registration and land documents to residents, the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) has also issued a notice urging citizens not to be misled by Marak.

The GHADC in a statement issued here has cautioned the people not to be taken in by any announcements made by Marak as he is not appointed a Nokma, nor is he a successor as per the provisions of Para 3(g) of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution.

The GHADC  has also clarified that pattas (land documents) issued by its Revenue Department is the necessary document for all official purposes.

“This supra clarifications and observations are hereby being issued so that no member of the public, especially simple villagers are misled by the activities of Bernard Rimpu Marak,” it added.
