Woman pushed out of moving vehicle
JOWAI: Remanbha Sungoh of Nangbah village suffered minor injuries after her husband pushed her out of a moving vehicle (Tata Sumo Tourist) on NH-44 at Mooralong Jowai on Wednesday morning, police said. Jowai police, after being informed by witnesses of the vehicle’s registration number, later came to know that the vehicle was driven by her husband, Emanuel Pasi. The woman was admitted to Jowai district civil hospital, Ialong. Witnesses first thought that the woman had jumped out of the moving vehicle. Later, Remanbha informed them that she was thrown out from the left door of the vehicle by her husband. It was however not ascertained as to why she was pushed out from the vehicle. Police are on the hunt for Emanuel who fled towards Ladrymbai.
Teachers call on CM over diploma
TURA: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has assured to look into the problems being faced by contractual lower primary school teachers over D.El.Ed diploma training. Following reports that those on contract would not be accepted to register themselves to undergo training, teachers under the banner of the All Garo Hills Government LP School Contractual Teachers’ Association (AGHGLPSCTA) on Tuesday met Sangma and submitted a memorandum seeking his intervention in the matter. During the meeting, the chief minister assured them that he would look into ways to enable them to undergo an 18-month D.El.Ed diploma course under NIOS.
Noverfield inaugurates ‘Sankalp’
TURA: Parliamentary Secretary and North Tura MLA Noverfield R Marak recently inaugurated the Sankalp Se Sidhi-New India Movement (2017-2022), a programme for doubling income of farmers. Speaking on the occasion, Marak spoke on effective use of water with the slogan ‘More Crop per Drop’ in mind. He urged farmers to make use of the different government schemes. Around 138 farmers from different villages of West Garo Hills participated in the programme that was organised by ICAR-KVK, West Garo Hills in collaboration with the College of Home Science, CAU, at the latter’s Conference hall in Tura.
Truck driver injured in WJH
Shillong: The driver of a loaded Tata truck sustained severe injuries when his truck collided with another vehicle coming from the opposite direction on August 30 around 11.15 AM. The loaded tata truck (AS01 EC 8124) was on its way to Guwahati and on reaching Mookyndur Village in West Jaintia Hills, it faced a technical problem and rammed into a goods carrier trailer truck which was coming from the opposite direction. The driver of the Tata truck Abdul Siddique 30 Male from Dhubri, Assam sustained serious injuries while the helper of the truck escaped uninjured. The 108 based at Jowai helped in shifting the injured victim to Ummulong CHC and was later shifted to Shillong Civil Hospital.
Abduction attempts
SHILLONG: A woman filed an FIR stating that her husband was abducted on August 28 around 7 pm by four unknown miscreants in one Maruti car (number not known) from Wahthapbru (Moodymmai-Ummulong border in WJH). However, police said that they have not registered the case as it was later found out that the husband, Baker Miki Nongjngi, went out with his friends for the night. In another case, Boimo Nongbah lodged a complaint that on the night of August 28, one Chanmitre Sumer along with his two accomplices attempted to abduct him in one Maruti car (ML-04B-7809) from Loomdiengling, Ummulong in West Jaintia Hills. They were friends and they had some issues and the matter is being investigated, Jowai police said.
Training on earthquake preparedness
NONGSTOIN: A two-day training programme on Disaster Management, Search & Rescue, First Aid & Mock Drill for Teachers/Students/Village Disaster Management Teams of Mawkyllei Village and Mawkyllei College and Higher Secondary School under Mawthadraishan C & Rd Block was organized by the office of the Block Development Officer, Mawthadraishan Block in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority, (DDMA), Nongstoin at Mawkyllei College on the August 29 and 30. The programme aims to acquaint teachers/students/village DMTs on the various aspects of Disaster and Emergency Management. The programme was inaugurated by J.Mawthoh, DDMO DDMA, Nongstoin, who emphasise on the need and importance of such a training programme and called upon all stakeholders especially the youth to join hands together in an effort to collectively participate in the event of a disaster.
CM reviews social schemes
Tura: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma expressed satisfaction that the Social Assistance Programmes, including the scheme for single mothers, have been effective in reaching out to the most vulnerable sections of the society and that the way forward now was to go beyond assistance and empower them by giving them the right kind of skilling under various skill development programmes to enable them to be independent and have a sustainable livelihood.

JOWAI: The Saffron Party in West Jaintia Hills will hold a one-day training program cum workshop for the people particularly for the members of the BJP in the district on September 7 at Tpep-pale Hall, Jowai.
Over 200 skilled trainees honoured
SHILLONG: NCP leader and legislator Sanbor Shullai has expressed concern over the growing unemployment in Meghalaya which he observed was a problem plaguing the country and society. Shullai said a growing number of young people have been compelled to leave their hometowns to pursue a career elsewhere in the country as there were hardly any job avenues in the state. The MLA was speaking as chief guest at a programme to felicitate over 200 youths passing out from Shubham Skill Development Centre, Rilbong on Wednesday.
