GUWAHATI: Showing concern of the government for the welfare of tribal population in the three hill districts of Assam, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday issued directives for improvement of road connectivity in all the three hill districts – Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao – in the state.
Making a review of the budget announcement implementation status in respect of Hill Area Development, Revenue and Minority Welfare Departments, the Chief Minister issued directives for construction of a state highway from Lanka to Haflong via Umrangsu in order to improve road connectivity in the hill districts.
He instructed the Hill Area Development (HAD) Department to prepare the detailed project report (DPR) for the same in coordination with the Public Works Department. Moreover, Sonowal also directed for constructing a road along Nagaland border in Dima Hasao District and instructed to build the initial 5 kms of the road on a priority basis.
In today’s meeting, the Chief Minister instructed the HAD Department for constructing a library-cum -convention centre at Dima Hasao district for immortalising those personalities who made immense contribution in the fields of art, culture and literature of 16 tribes inhabiting there.
Reviewing the functioning of Revenue Department, Sonowal directed for swift and successful implementation of ‘Ease of Doing Business’ policy of the government and also asked the department for taking steps towards increasing the salary of Gaon Burhas (Village Heads). He also directed speedy conversion of Tahsildari system, currently in place in seven districts to Moujadari system.
