SHILLONG: Chief secretary Y. Tsering has sought from the PWD (roads) a report on the broken pavement over Umiam dam.
The broken pavement along the stretch of National Highway 6 over the dam was noticed on July 5. Worse still, cracks have appeared on certain portions of the bridge.
Tsering said the PWD officials have carried out a spot visit on Friday.
Besides asking the PWD to carry out repair work, he also sought a detailed report on the matter.
Tsering admitted that if the crucial route had to be cut off, commuters from here would face difficulty in reaching Guwahati and other areas.
