SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council, Mawlai Circle has opposed the decision of Kendriya Vidyalaya NEHU in asking the students to enroll for Aadhaar.
President of HYC Mawlai Circle, Donboklang Kharlyngdoh said that they went to meet the Principal of the school who, however, was not present.
The HYC will meet him on Saturday to discuss the matter.
“He forced the students to enroll for Aadhaar. However, Aadhaar is not mandatory. If students want to enroll for the scheme, they can do so as it is their personal choice,” he said.
The HYC leader asserted that the school should not pressurize students to enroll themselves for Aadhaar adding that the Supreme Court has ruled that Right to Privacy is a fundamental right, even as the matter of Aadhaar is sub-judice.
