SHILLONG: The Meghalaya SSA School Association (MSSASA) has denounced the inefficiency of the state government, especially in the field of education, and urged citizens to “take a stand for teachers”.
Commenting on Teachers’ Day, MSSASA President Aristotle C. Rymbai said the day is an opportunity to honour those who inspire and nurture young minds.
“The importance of the profession is highlighted only on this day and on other days teachers have to strive,” Rymbai said in a statement released on Sunday.
He suggested that the state government should take concrete steps, like formulating an education policy, to better the condition of teachers.
Stating the MSSASA’s slogan for teachers’ Day is ‘Take a Stand for Teachers’, he said, “To take a stand for teachers and the profession means to support teachers in the work that they do by providing adequate training, ongoing professional development and protecting their rights.”
“On this day, we call for the creation of a supportive teaching environment and adequate training and safeguard for the rights of teachers.
We must break the vicious cycle of declining professional conditions for teachers to improve the quality of education,” he said.
