Woman vendor murdered in Police Bazar area

SHILLONG: In a shocking incident, a woman, was brutally murdered by unknown miscreants in Police Bazar, heart of the capital city on early Sunday morning.

Police quoting the husband of the victim, Anjana Singha (36) who is a roadside vendor selling junk food in Keating Road in Police Bazar, said the woman was assaulted on her way to Lady keane College gate by unknown miscreants on Sunday morning around 1.15 to 1.30 AM.

Police informed that the hawkers usually keep their push cart in the area near the Lady Keane College.

She suffered injuries on her neck and face and was immediately shifted to Shillong civil hospital with the help of a 108 ambulance, where she was declared brought dead.

Police said that it was a murder case and the miscreants slit her throat by some sharp weapon.

Police said that her husband, Surash Singha of Polo M C Road, first noticed his injured wife whom he carried to Police Bazar on his shoulder and then police was informed.

Meanwhile, the   CCTV footage of Police Bazar area is being analyzed while the motive of the murder is yet to be ascertained. In addition, police have also sought for CCTV footage from the nearby shops in the area.

Involvement of the husband who brought the body prior to arrival of police from the place of occurrence to Police Bazar point, in murder was ruled out since it has been ascertained from the neighbours that the couples were living peacefully and the three children also stated that there was no problem between their parents

After post mortem, the woman’s body has been handed over to the husband after the post mortem for the last rites.  A case of murder has also been registered.
