TURA: The Chambugong Mahari Association in Tura has asked the West Garo Hills deputy commissioner to take strong action against Bernard Rimpu N Marak for illegally asserting himself as the Tura Nokma and allegedly using fake seal of the Danakgre Nokma.
In its complaint to DC Pravin Bakshi, the association said Danakgre Nokma Enilla Ch Marak is the only authorised person to use the seal as per GHADC rules. The association, while pointing out that GHADC is the sole authority in appointing Nokmaship of any A’king land, termed Enilla’s authorisation of Marak to act as Nokma illegal and inappropriate as per Council rules.
The association also produced a map of Tura Town recorded by Asansing R Marak, a Muzadar during the British rule and then Deputy Commissioner GD Walker.
“In the map it is clear that Mark A shows Tura Town Elaka which falls under Mouza No 10, Mark B indicates forest reserve areas, also under Mouza No 10, Mark C has been sold to one Lasker (name not mentioned) and Mark D indicates Danakgre A’king land. Therefore, appointing of Nokmaship/Chief of Nokmas under Marks A and B does not arise and whoever claims to be the Nokma should attract legal action to be taken under the provisions of the law,” the association said in its letter to the DC.
