SHILLONG: After delays, BJP on Tuesday fixed the visit of national president of the party Amit Shah to Shillong on September 28.
The date of the one-day visit was scheduled after the core committee of the State BJP led by its president Shibun Lyngdoh met the party chief and other BJP central leaders in Delhi on Tuesday.
Shah was to visit Meghalaya in August but it was postponed since he was busy during the Rajya Sabha polls.
Lyngdoh said over phone from Delhi that during his visit to Shillong, Shah will meet the party leaders, intellectuals and the religious leaders.
During his first visit to Shillong in April 2015, Shah had met the religious leaders, senior citizens and intellectuals.
Prior to the visit of Shah, BJP national spokesperson and in charge of Meghalaya, Nalin Kohli, will meet the party leaders in city as part of preparations.
Shah will inaugurate the new party office during his visit and a few legislators are expected to join the party in his presence, Lyngdoh said, adding that on September 29, he will leave for Nagaland.
To a question, Lyngdoh said the party will start issuing application forms from October and announcement of the candidates will be made by the end of November or beginning of December.
Shah speaks to Sonowal on medical seats
The state BJP delegation during the meeting with Shah and others also took up the issue related to denial of medial seats to Meghalaya students by Assam.
“Our party president also spoke to the Assam chief minister to sort out the matter so that the students from Meghalaya do not suffer,” Lyngdoh said.
