SHILLONG: Hamlet Dohling, who resigned from the primary leadership of the United Democratic Party (UDP) last Saturday, is set to join the People’s Democratic Front (PDF.
In a statement issued to the media, Dohling along with his supporters from Mylliem constituency, said a meeting in this regard would be organised on September 8 at Community Hall in Umlyngka in which people from the constituency apart from leaders and MDCs of the PDF have been invited.
Speaking to reporters here, he said, “I did not leave UDP but it is the UDP that distanced itself from me after it chose to take a different path. So I also decided to take another path.”
Dohling along with his supporters had voiced resentment against the UDP-HSPDP alliance as according to them, the tie-up was a strategy of the Hill State People’s Democratic Party to weaken the UDP
He said his supporters also want him to join PDF.
Commenting on the UDP-HSPDP alliance, Dohling said, “The alliance has failed from day one. You only have to count the number of days (till the alliance falls), especially those from UDP.”
Meanwhile, in a separate press statement, the supporters of Dohling from UDP Mylliem circle tendered their resignation to the party leadership on Tuesday.
