MeECL starts repairing damaged pavement on Umiam Dam

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) has started repairing the damaged pavement on Umiam dam on September 1 and the work is expected to be completed soon. The delay in repairing the pavement was due to a litigation.

A rejoinder issued here by the MeECL on Wednesday pointed out that on July 8 incident in which a Shillong-Tura bound night bus, AS01HC 2566, rammed into the footpath of the main Umiam Dam, Umiam at around 6: 30 pm.

The incident left 36 numbers of footpath slab covers damaged which is covering a distance of 15 meters and are located on the spillway bridge chainage of the main Umiam Dam at Umiam.

The vehicle was apprehended and the case was registered before the Umiam Police Station immediately after the incident.

The MeECL stated that other than the damage of the footpath slab covers, no other part (s) of the structure of the dam is affected.

With regard to the repairing of the potholes on the dam, the MeECL said that it was not a fact that no repairing has been done since October 2012 and that the same had been repaired from time to time as and when it is required.
