SHILLONG: The members of the dissolved Pynursla Block Congress Committee (PBCC) have decided to resign from the primary membership of the party.
Speaking to media persons here after a meeting, the former PBCC president, Emlynestone Khongsti while condemning the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), said that they fell insulted over the manner that the MPCC had dissolved PBCC.
“The action of MPCC clearly suggests that it is a party which is being controlled and run by only one or two individuals and the efforts taken by the block are wasted due to the dictatorial style of functioning of MPCC’s top party functionaries,” Khongsti said.
It may be mentioned that a total number of 44 members of the previous PBCC have decided to resign from the primary membership of the Congress party.
When asked if the MPCC had dissolved the PBCC on the ground that there are reports that the Congress MLA from the constituency, Prestone Tynsong would contest the upcoming election from a different party, Khongsti said that they have no idea on the plan of Tynsong to leave the party adding that the previous PBCC had already chalk out programmes to kickstart their campaign to strengthen the party at the booth level as part of the preparation for the upcoming election.
Meanwhile, he said that they would soon called the general meeting of all Congress supporters in the constituency to take a final decision whether they should join a new party.
Replying to a query if they have consulted the local MLA on this development, Khongsti said that they have not been able to meet the local MLA since he is out of station.
We would definitely seek the local MLA opinion on this matter,” Khongsti added.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) state general secretary, Banangsan Tynsong informed that he has resigned from the post of the general secretary and also from the primary membership of the party.
Apart from Pynursula, the MPCC had already dissolved block Congress committees in Mawkyrwat, Nartiang and Umroi Assembly constituencies, which is being represented by Congress MLAs, Rowell Lyngdoh, Sniawbhalang Dhar and Ngaitlang Dhar respectively.
The dissolution of these block committees represented by the three sitting Congress MLAs is an indication that the MPCC is anticipating that the trio may not contest the upcoming election on a Congress ticket.
