SHILLONG: The headman of Police Bazar S.L Singhania has sought clarification from the chief executive officer of Shillong Municipal Board regarding the registration of retailers and vendors for dispensing plastic bags to consumers.
In a letter addressed to the board CEO on Wednesday, Singhania said the notice issued by the board to the shopkeepers, retailers and vendors was confusing. ) While the district administration had allowed the use of plastic bags of 40 microns, the municipal board had asked for a registration fee of Rs 4,000 per month.
According to the headman, if the government intends to put a complete ban on the use of plastic bags, it should come out with a proper plan and rules and regulations with proper concurrence of the National Green Tribunal.
