SHILLONG: Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will meet the ten Meghalaya students who were denied medical seats here on September 17.
This assurance was given to UDP legislator Paul Lyngdoh who had taken up the controversial issue with Sarma and Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal during his visit to Delhi as part of NEDA meeting on Tuesday. Meanwhile, a notification issued by Prof. AK Barman, director of medical education, Assam on July 3 to the principals of Gauhati Medical College, Assam Medical College and Silchar Medical College, stated that the NEC quota under which 13 students were admitted in MBBS courses previously has been abolished in the current UG admission rule of the government of Assam.
Hence the number of seats allotted under Central (pool) quota has been reduced to six from the previous number of 15.
The notification also requested the principals not to admit any student from the NEC quota.
Besides, they were also requested to report to the director if any allotment letter was received by them for admission under the quota so that necessary action could be taken by communication with the government.
