Party releases list of 28 candidates

SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP) on Thursday announced the list of 28 candidates who would be contesting the upcoming 2018 elections.
All the sitting MLAs of the party will contest from their respective constituencies.
Party president Donkupar Roy will contest from Shella and former president of FKJGP Joe Marwein will be the candidate from North Shillong.
Veteran leader Bindo M Lanong who lost the 2013 Assembly polls to Congress’s Ampareen Lyngdoh will once again try his luck from East Shillong.
Sitting MLAs Paul Lyngdoh, Jemino Mawthoh, Embhahlang Syiemlieh, Metbah Lyngdoh and Titosstarwell Chyne will be in the fray from their respective constituencies.
Roy said the party is likely to release the second list of candidates by October.
Altogether 18 candidates have been announced in the Khasi-Jaintia Hills region and names of 10 candidates have been announced for Garo Hills constituencies.
The list also included the three sitting MDCs of the party – Donkupar Sumer (Umsning), Rona Khymdeit (Nongpoh) and Moonlight Pariat (Jowai).
 The names of two former ministers, Nidhuram Hajong (Mahendraganj) and Nimarson Momin (Salmanpara), were also on the list.
