MAWKYRWAT: A linesman of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) was electrocuted and his colleague seriously injured while they were repairing an 11kv power line at Mawthawpdah, 15km from here, in South West Khasi Hills District on Saturday.
Thomborlin Snaitang, 33, from Nonglang died on the spot while Worning Jyrwa from Jakrem was seriously injured in the incident.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, South West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, HG Lyngdoh, said the incident, according to the report from the sub-divisional officer, MeECL, Mawkyrwat, took place at 4:30pm on Saturday.
“The injured person was rushed to Mawkyrwat Community Health Centre and later referred to Civil Hospital, Shillong for better treatment,” the SP said.
Lyngdoh said Snaitang’s body was handed over to his family after a post-mortem examination.
“Investigation into the incident is going on,” the police official said.
Unconfirmed reports from residents say the incident took place because of miscommunication between the lineman who was repairing the power line and the other who was controlling the switch.
