SHILLONG: The Rs 2.25-crore digital planetarium project is yet to start even after five years of its approval.
The monthly progress report of the North Eastern Council (NEC) states that the project has been delayed by 40 months. The planetarium will come up at Shillong Science Centre on the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) campus.
According to the report, a letter was written to the state government on December 13, 2016, for resubmission of revised DPR through proper channel. In another letter written to the government in August 2017, submission of utilisation certificate and the revised detailed project report was requested. The project was sanctioned in November 2012. NEC’s share in the cost is Rs 2.25 crore and the council had released Rs 90 lakh in the same year.
The scheduled date for completion of the project was March 2014.
The Science and Technology Centre is coming up with another digital planetarium in Tura and construction began last year.
