GUWAHATI: Meghalaya has encroached upon Assam territory in Lampi (Langpih) area in Kamrup district and constructed roads, schools, churches and houses, the Assam government said on Monday.
Responding to a question raised by Boko MLA Nandita Das in the state Assembly, Assam Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said the government was aware that some areas of Lampi under Boko revenue circle of Kamrup, were illegally occupied by Meghalaya.
“Habitations, roads, school and temple/churches have also been constructed by people of Meghalaya in these areas,” he said.
Patowary maintained that the Assam government has been persistently working for resolution of disputes between the two states through dialogues and good neighbourly relations.
He added that talks at various levels, including at the chief minister and the chief secretary levels, were regularly held over the matter.
The House was informed that there were two border outposts, at Lower and Upper Lampi, to ensure security.
A platoon of 4th Assam Police Battalion has been stationed in each of the BOPs and five motorcycles have been provided to these platoons.
Patowary said besides the existing infrastructure and logistical support, improvement in security system is being pursued to ensure complete protection of lives and property of people living in the area.
