SHILLONG: The co-workers and supporters of Jonathone N. Sangma, Independent candidate of Williamnagar constituency on Tuesday denied extending support to sitting legislator Deborah Marak as claimed by her.
In a statement, Benjamin Marak, a supporter of Sangma said that Deborah is trying to mislead and deceive the supporters. “However, we are aware of every game that she will play as her chance to win the coming election is very slim”, Sangma said.
According to the statement , the followers of Jonathone are intact and continue to support him since the previous elections and will remain loyal to his cause till the end, and are also expecting a landslide victory in the coming election.
According to Jonathone’s group, they never thought of switching over to Deborah and added that thousands of her supporters had abandoned her and joined him.
Commenting on the unfulfilled promises of Deborah, Jonathone said that though she had made promises prior to the polls, they were not fulfilled.
“Deborah in her manifesto in 2013 attached photos of the prominent Congress leaders and stated that she will construct Multi-Purpose Shopping Complexes at Samgong Bazar, Soil Bazar and Williamnagar Bazar. And it was also mentioned that hanging bridges will be built at Sampalgre, Baija Abagre, Sisobibra and Samanda Dolwarigre. She had even laid the foundation stone to construct these bridges, but they were not constructed.
According to the statement, Deborah had also promised to give CGI sheets to every households in every village in her constituency but has failed to do so. Though she had given to few to selected villages it has only resulted in discontentment among the people who had not receive them.
