SHILLONG: Three persons, including the mother of the 16-year-old girl who was dragged into prostitution, have been arrested.
East Khasi Hills SP Davis Marak said on Tuesday besides the mother who trafficked her daughter, two accused identified as Shngain Nongrum and Hep, who sexually abused the minor girl, were arrested in connection with the crime.
The SP said the duo admitted to having sexual relationship with the victim who is pregnant and admitted in a city hospital.
The allegation of the relatives was that the mother sold her daughter for money.
To the question of laxity on the part of the police though the first FIR was lodged at Madanrting police station in January, the SP said that an internal inquiry was on.
