SHILLONG: HSPDP supremo Ardent Basaiawmoit has criticised the Assam Government for making false claim that Meghalaya is encroaching on Langpih.
Basaiawmoit said on Wednesday that in fact, it is Assam that is encroaching upon areas in Meghalaya.
“Langpih is very much part and parcel of Meghalaya, and there is no question of Meghalaya encroaching on Assam,” Basaiawmoit asserted.
He also expressed concern over the Meghalaya government not taking serious steps to address the issue as the matter had only ended in discussions whenever the issue was taken up.
Langpih came into prominence seven years ago when four Khasi villagers were killed and 12 injured after Assam police personnel fired at them on May 14, 2010.
The Justice (retd) PC Phukan Inquiry Commission in its report had indicted Platoon Commander of Assam Police, Prem Singh Limbu, for ordering excessive and unjustified firing without warning that resulted in the violent incident.
