Women’s panel warns against misuse of social media

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya State Commission for Women has said that it is concerned over misuse of certain social media platforms and circulation of obscene images and derogatory comments targeting individuals and in particular women which, according to the commission, has a profound effect on their psyche and surroundings.
In a statement, the Commission said that circulation of such content is a crime and can be penalised for defamation.
“Any victim of such vilification can come forward to file a complaint at the Commission or file an FIR at the nearest Police Station”, the statement added.
