SHILLONG: Poor banking facilities, ban on stone quarrying and government housing scheme were some of the issues in focus during Tura MP Conrad Sangma’s Disha review meeting in Rongjeng Block of East Garo Hills and at Ampati for the South West Garo Hills.
Sangma said he had followed up on the problem of poor banking infrastructure and had contacted RBI and the Finance Minister in this regard.
He also suggested a two-pronged approach focusing on increasing human resources of banks and also expanding infrastructure through the setting up of co-operative and commercial banks in the region.
During the PMGSY presentations, he told the official that there was a ban on stone quarrying but it should not have had any impact on the various programmes implementation.
The MP also shared his concerns over the backlogs running from the previous year and said there could be potential financial constraints that would be faced in future if the projects are not finished and completed in time.
