SHILLONG: The Supreme Court on Friday deferred the hearing on the case relating to denial of admission to ten candidates from the state in Assam-based medical colleges to September 18.

A meeting was held between the officials of the Health Department and the affected students along with their parents on Friday.

The students told reporters that they were told by the officials to be patient as the case is still pending in the apex court.

The issue has led to mudslinging between the Assam government and the state government as the state government asserted that Assam government abruptly changed its rules for allocation of NEC quota seats and informed at the eleventh hour that made it was not allotting any seats to students from Meghalaya this year.

The ten students found that their seats were abolished to make way for OBC candidates as the number of OBC quota seats in medical colleges in Assam had to be increased to 27 per cent from existing 15 per cent as per the directive of the Supreme Court.
