SHILLONG: Hundreds of Muslim communities in Shillong held a protest march against the atrocities and persecution of Rohingya Muslim of Myanmar on Friday.
The protesters held placards highlighting the plight of Rohingyas. Asking the Centre not to deport Rohingya Muslims back to Myanmar, the protesters appealed to Central government to stop deportation of the 40,000 Rohingyas in India as this will lead to mass killing if they are sent back.
However, former MLA P.M.Syiem has raised an issue with regard to the possible influx of Rohingyas in the State.
In his letter to the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister, he urged the leaders to step up border patrol as there a possibility of exodus of Rohingya who have crossed all barriers to reach Bangladesh from Myanmar. The State which shares a long border with Bangladesh should be on absolute alert as there is a possibility of breach from Meghalaya and to other parts of India, he said.
