SHILLONG: Labour minister Ampareen Lyngdoh has downplayed any role in the education scam saying that the law of the land would protect her rights as a citizen of the country.
“The matter (education scam) is still pending in Court. Some people time and again bring it up against me. If there is enough evidence, arrest me otherwise desist from such talk as it is improper,” she told reporters on the sidelines of a programme here.
“No one is above the law. The same law that people are bringing against me is the same law that will protect my rights as a citizen of the country,” the minister said. Ampareen asserted that challenges were always there but as leaders one had to deal with both baseless and genuine issues.
“As a leader, I have worked hard to walk the path of truth and I believe that if you have not done anything wrong or you have not lied, God will be there to help,” she said.
Replying to a query on the Congress, she said, “The Congress has worked hard as a party in contributing to the society.”
She maintained that the electorate was wise enough to choose their representatives even as she stated that the fight to the elections would be a good one for people to watch out for.
“I will not criticise anyone and will not praise anyone. It is all up to the public to decide and give their mandate,” she added.
“For me, election is a part where I can get support from the people of the constituency whether they still need or not,” the minister said.
She further said she was confident about her prospects.
“I have visited 80 per cent of the households in my constituency where I have been able to discuss with the people”, she said
Stating that challenges were inevitable, she said, “I believe that when the gods feel that I should lead the constituency, they will give me strength and lead me till the end.”
