JOWAI: Andrew Shullai, the Jowai Central MDC and the deputy chief executive member of Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC), was elected leader of the Congress party in the Council at the MPCC meeting held at the official residence of MPCC president DD Lapang on Monday evening.
Sources informed that chief executive member Thombor Shiwat was absent in the meeting. “He failed to attend despite the MPCC directing him to attend the meeting,” a Congress member informed.
The meeting was attended by 19 of the 20 Congress members besides C&RD Minister Comingone Ymbon and Sutnga Block Congress Committee president Shitlang Pale and West Jaintia Hills District Congress president Lahkmen Rymbui.
The move to oust Shiwat from the post of CEM in JHADC gained momentum after former PWD and power minister and Nartiang MLA Sniawbhalang Dhar was removed from the Cabinet. The Jowai Block Congress Committee president Shullai had filed a complaint with the president of MPCC against Sniawbhalang for his alleged anti-party activities in JHADC.
This was MPCC’s third meeting to discuss matters relating to change in leadership.
According to sources, apart from Shullai, some names proposed for the CEM’s post included JHADC chairman Arborhima Darnei of Saipung and Kilometer Lytan of Shangpung.
