TURA: Member District Council (MDC) for Tura GHADC constituency, Rupert M Sangma along with development committees representing different localities recently paid a surprise visit to the PHE water treatment plant and the GHADC water distribution point following complaints of acute water shortage from residents of different localities of the town.

Sangma alleged that during their inspection, it was found that pressure of water being released was low due to the absence of a water reservoir which was affecting distribution.

“Due to the low pressure, water is not being distributed to all the localities. It was only after the valve was released for three more rounds that the water pressure increased to be strong enough for equal distribution,” Sangma said.

An assurance was given by the MDC that a request would be sent to the PHE Department to increase the amount of water being released for the affected areas.

He also informed that a letter has been issued to the PHE Department by the Water Works Department of the GHADC to start the construction of the water tank near Tura Government College at the earliest.
