SHILLONG: The senior congress legislator, Prestone Tynsong, said that though he wanted to apply for the party ticket, the stand of the MPCC in dissolving the Pynursla Block Congress Committee has discouraged him and his supporters.
After the dissolution of the Pynursla Block Congress Committee, the supporters of Tynsong asked him not to seek party ticket since it was a humiliation as they were not consulted by the Congress leadership.
“When I was away in Shimla to pick up my daughter, the Block Congress was dissolved. Even after this, I was keen to apply for party ticket and asked the leaders to get the application forms from party office”, Tynsong recalled.
Later, several leaders from the Block resigned from their respective posts and asked Tynsong not to apply for the party ticket.
“I have to respect the suggestion of my supporters and hence I finally decided not to apply for party ticket”, Tynsong said.
According to the Congress leader, who won consecutively three times from Pynursla, the party bulldozed the Block Congress Committee on the pretext that it was not functioning.
He said that the party leadership had pre planned the move to oust him from the party.
“We were the first constituency which was fully organized systematically and had enrolled many party workers and the accusation that the Block was not functioning does not hold water”, he added.
Reasons unknown
To a question on the dissolution of the Block, Tynsong said the he was yet to know the reason.
“Since I am close to some MLAs and I visit them and have dinner with them does not mean that I am engaging in anti party activities and there is nothing written in the constitution of the party that I should not mingle with friends”, Tynsong said.
The Congress leader also said that he had not criticized either the chief minister or the MPCC president.
Referring to his earlier statement that MLAs will elect the CLP leader , Tynsong said that projecting someone as the next chief minister is not only illogical but against the constitution of the party.
Earlier, after the Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress chief Richard Marak made a statement that Mukul Sangma should continue as the chief minister, Tynsong had responded against the stand of the youth Congress leader.
AICC ignored change in leadership demand
Tynsong said that while the Congress members were not against the party, the issue of change of leadership was raised with the AICC, but in vain.
“However, I was blamed that I was over ambitious to take over the post of chief minister”, Tynsong said.
According to Tynsong , it is now too late to salvage the party.
Next move to be revealed
To a question, the Congress leader said that he would reveal his action plan in due course of time.
Asked whether he will join NPP, Tynsong said that consultations were still on with his supporters on the next move.
Tynsong also refused to comment to the question on whether the NPP will project him as the chief ministerial candidate after he joins the party.
