SHILLONG: The Civil Society Womens’ Organisation (CSWO) has urged the state government to expedite talks on the border dispute with the Assam government.
CSWO was reacting to the news report over the claims of the Assam government that Langpih was within their state and expressed opposition to the statement.
In a press statement, CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said the border disputes should not be a problem as everything was in black and white when the areas for the new statehood were demarcated.
“The state government should also issue a notification to all organisations and departments that the real map of Meghalaya should be used and displayed in their project proposals, not to mislead the people,” she said.
She went on to claim that the organisation had noticed that many institutes and organisations were using the map of Meghalaya which was not the real map of the state.
Kharshiing alleged that the state government had shown neglect in regard to bringing about development in the border areas despite the availability of funds.
It may be recalled that while replying to a query raised by Boko MLA Nandita Das in the Assembly, Assam parliamentary affairs minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said the government was aware that some areas of Lampi (Langpih) under Boko revenue circle of Kamrup were illegally occupied by Meghalaya.
Recently, Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma asserted that maturity and commitment should be maintained by the Assam government while dealing with talks on border disputes.
