SHILLONG: The state president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shibun Lyngdoh has asserted that the only party members can seek application from the party to contest the 2018 Assembly polls.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, he said, “The BJP will provide applications for people to apply for party tickets and anyone who wants to apply should be a member of BJP. Until and unless they are not members of the BJP, how can we give them application?”

However, he reiterated that the door of the political party was open to all legislators who wanted to join the party.

When asked on Congress MLA, AL Hek’s invitation on the visit of Amit Shah to the state to inaugurate the party’s office later this month, Lyngdoh said that it was upto the Reception Committee of the state BJP to finalise the invitees.

“We don’t have any intentions to call any sitting legislators but there are sitting legislators who have sent feelers to the party,” he added.

It may be mentioned that Hek had stated that he would  take his supporters into confidence, before joining BJP as he maintained that it was BJP that brought him into politics. Hek often refers to BJP as his mother organization.

On the other hand, in a recent interview, president of Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), DD Lapang has warned Congress MLAs of disciplinary action if they meet BJP chief Amit Shah during his visit to the city.

The warning by Lapang has come in the wake of Congress MLA, AL Hek’s revelation that he would attend the inauguration of the BJP office in Shillong, if invited.
