TURA: The unavailability of petrol for almost over a month at the only petrol pump at Chokpot in South Garo Hills has irked the local unit of the Garo Students’ Union (GSU) which has demanded the immediate stocking of the vehicle fuel.

Pointing out that the number of vehicle owners in Chokpot had increased over the years, the union said that families were suffering due to the shortage of fuel especially, in times of emergencies like transportation of patients to hospitals other places like Tura for treatment.

According to the union, it recently met the manager of the petrol pump where they were told that petrol was not being brought in due to damage on a particular bridge.

“This is absolute nonsense! If transportation of petrol has been stopped due to a damaged bridge, how is it that they are able to bring in diesel ?” the union asked while claiming that truck loads of rice were also being brought in regularly to the region.

The union urged the pump authorities to make petrol available at the earliest and warned that it would resort to a new course of action if it failed to do so.
