SHILLONG: Two veteran politicians of Meghalaya S C Marak and Rowell Lyngdoh who have contested many elections since many years together on as Congress candidates may no longer remain comrade in arms   as the latter is more or less certain of not contesting the election on Congress ticket

Speaking on the matter, both the leaders said that   both of them are Congress MLAs till the end of the term.

“Let us see till the elections as elections have not yet come, Marak said adding that nothing can be predicted and they may work together.

It may be mentioned that the veteran MLA from Mawkyrwat, Rowell Lyngdoh has not collected the application form to apply for Congress ticket to contest the next Assembly polls which gives an indication that he may not contest the next election as a Congress man.

Rowell Lyngdoh who has openly claimed that it is impossible for Congress to form the Government in Meghalaya in 2018 further said that he had not collected the application as he thought of not contesting the polls

“When elections come and if I feel that I should contest elections, I will do it,” Lyngdoh added.

On being asked about the Congress MLAs who are suspected of leaving the party, Marak said that   it’s not sure whether the suspected MLAs would leave the party or not so he considers all of them as the Congress MLAs as of now. He further said that it depended on the individuals whether they wanted to stay or leave the party.

On being asked about the growing presence of BJP in the state, the veteran leader said that Meghalaya had its own unique position and thinking of the people and it was not possibly to say anything as to whether the MLAs who are suspected of leaving the party would really leave the party.
