United Nations:  A peaceful settlement of the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula is in line with the common will of the international community and will help prevent the tensions from spiralling out of control, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has said.
Wang made the remark on Wednesday while meeting US Vice President Mike Pence on the sidelines of the annual general debate of the UN General Assembly in New York, Xinhua news agency reported.
Talking about the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, Wang and Pence acknowledged the important consensus both sides have on the de-nuclearisation of the peninsula and the need to safeguard the international non-proliferation regime.
“The international community should turn the pressure of sanctions into a thrust for negotiations at a proper time, create conditions for talks and seize opportunities for dialogue,” Wang said.
Pence said the US and China have great cooperation potential in a wide range of areas and that the two countries should push for continuous progress in practical cooperation.
“US President Donald Trump treasures his good relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping and is looking forward to his state visit to China,” said Pence.(IANS)
