Sale of tobacco to minors banned in West Garo Hills

TURA: West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Pravin Bakshi has prohibited the sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products to minors who are under 18 years of age, at market places and in areas within one hundred yards of educational institutions.

The order also directed vendors and shops selling tobacco products to display a notice with a warning ‘Sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products to a person under the age of 18 years is strictly prohibited and is a punishable offence’.

The order comes following reports of vendors and shops selling cigarettes and tobacco products to minors at the above mentioned places, was brought to his notice.
