JOWAI: Though a special session has been called on Friday, Thombor Shiwat, the chief executive member of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council, says he will not resign from his post even after the members of the council electing Andrew Shullai as the leader of the Congress party in the council.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Shiwat, who did not turn up in the MPCC meeting, said he would wait for the special session to be summoned.
“I am not going to resign from the post. I’ll wait for the special session to be summoned,” Shiwat said.
Asked whether he would participate in the test of strength during the special session, his answer was in the affirmative.
The Shiwat-led executive committee was accused of anti-party activities because he represents Nartiang, the constituency of Sniawbhalang Dhar, who was dropped from the Cabinet as minister of power, community and rural development.
The MPCC held a series of meetings to elect the new leader of the party in the council. On Monday evening, the meeting decided to elect Shullai as the new leader.
The JHADC has 20 Congress members.
The executive committee led by Shiwat was supported by the members of other parties, including UDP and Independent members, barring BJP member, Marki Mulieh who has left UDP after he was elected MDC.
