NGOs adopt resolution to stop crime against women, children

SHILLONG: The Garo Students Union (GSU), Mendal Unit organized a joint meeting with Joint Action Committee (JAC), Bajengdoba at the Mendal Community Hall premises on Thursday, regarding the safety and security of women and minor girls in the area in the wake of rise in adduction and trafficking cases. 
The meeting was attended by the students’ body leaders, Bajengdoba Unit, Mothers’ Union, Mendal Circle, Nokma, Sordars and leaders of more than 50 villages. 
In a view of the prevailing tense situation in the area, the leaders as well as the general public have expressed concern over human trafficking especially of women, and girls from the area. In the meeting, the Nokma, Sordars and the leaders supported the resolution, which was adopted by the JAC, Bajengdoba area including GSU, FKJGP, Mothers’ Union and others in a public meeting held recently. The resolution was aimed at securing safety and security of the residents and to avoid any untoward incidents in the future.
The resolution barred non-tribals from selling goods door to door in Bajengdoba area.
The non-tribals have also been directed to submit their identity proof to the local authorities.
