16 join UDP at Mawkyrwat

Mawkyrwat: A former candidate and 15 other leaders from various political parties joined the United Democratic Party here on Tuesday.
Newly appointed president of Ranikor circle, G.G. Bung Snaitang said the development only indicated that the regional party was getting better each day.
Speaking to reporters after the executive committee meeting at Dorbar Hall here, Snaitang said, “Today, we welcome Leenga A. Sangma who had contested the Assembly elections in 2008 and 15 other leaders from BJP and Congress to our party”.
“Each day we are getting better. Many leaders, including ex-candidates, who have contested from different parties, and as Independents, have joined our party. Now we have 15 well-organised zonal units and we are ready for the elections,” Snaitang said.
Recently, many leaders and two candidates who had earlier contested in the Assembly and MDC elections, Cornelius Nongbri and Nasar Marwein joined the party at a meeting held at Nongjri in South West Khasi Hills district.
During the meeting, the party also elected new office-bearers of Ranikor circle with Snaitang as president, Alphon K Rjya, Primus Thongni, Tehseng Marak and John Paul Hashah as vice presidents, Nasar N Marwein as senior working president, Pius Marwein, Narayan Thongni, L.A. Sangma, Cornelius Nongbri, G. Lyngkhoi and Golstar Shira as working presidents and D.E. Turnia as secretary.
