NONGPOH: In what can be termed as a show of strength before the upcoming 2018 assembly elections, thousands of Jason Mawlong supporters, a candidate of the newly floated Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) party from Umsning constituency, thronged the jam-packed playground at Umsning on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by top leaders of the party including president Ivanbanlumlang Marbaniang, general secretary Auspicious Lyngdoh Mawphlang, MDC’s of Jirang and Umroi, Victor Ranee and Albinus Lyngdoh respectively.

Former president of Federation of Khasi Jaintia & Garo People (FKJGP) Emlang Lytan, family members of Jason Mawlong, prominent leaders of Umsning constituency including former leaders of UDP and Congress who had joined PDF recently were also among others who attended the meeting. Addressing the gathering, Mawlong said that his main intention to contest in the Assembly elections is to bring forward a change in the constituency especially in terms of development and also to bring forward an accountability and transparency leadership besides formulating various policies for the youth and the farmers.
“Protecting the identity and diverse cultures of our indigenous people is another top priority that I will take up if the people elected me as their representative,” Mawlong said adding that with him as their representative, there were will be no middlemen and that the people can contact him directly if they need him at any point of time. Earlier, new office bearers of the party including the Zonal Committee of Umsning cons-tituency, Youth, and Women wing were also officially confirmed by the state president of the PDF, Ivanbanlumlang Marbaniang.
