SHILLONG: The Border Security Force (BSF) at Gasuapara in South Garo Hills has apprehended two suspected smugglers dealing in two-wheeler parts.
In a statement issued on Thursday, BSF said its troops spotted the duo, identified as 20-year-old Jankey Marak and 21-year-old Abel Sangma, dealing with a Bangladeshi coal importer named Mintu near the international border fence on Wednesday.
When Mintu saw the BSF troops he ran towards Bangladesh and the duo towards Gobrakura.
But the border sentinels caught them and after investigating found out that they were handing over a consignment of motor cycle parts. Both the young men are from Gasuapara.
In another incident on Wednesday, BSF troops at Rithingpara in South West Khasi Hills seized 16 cattle worth more than Rs 2 lakh while being smuggled to Bangladesh from India. The smugglers escaped, said the BSF statement.
In the last one week, BSF seized 167 cattle worth more than Rs 64 lakh and other contrabands.
