SHILLONG: The National Peoples’ Party (NPP) Youth Wing, North Garo Hills district condemned Chief Minister Mukul M Sangma on the partisan distribution of crop saplings after the recent launch of the Saplings Distribution Programme in North Garo Hills district.
The scheme was launched by the chief minister through the District Agriculture and Horticulture Department at the North Garo Hills district headquarters, Resubelpara, for the people of the region.
At the launching of the programme, saplings of coconut, betel nut, black pepper and others, were to be distributed to the farmers of the region.
However, NPP alleged in a statement on Thursday that the saplings were distributed only to those who got recommendations from the Congress legislators and not to the farmers.
The statement further said that after the launch, all the saplings were kept at a place belonging to Sangma in Mendipathar which were later distributed to Congress workers only.
In this context, the Youth Wing has condemned the steps taken by the chief minister. It also urged him as CM to work for the benefits of the state farmers uniformly during implementation of such schemes.
