Flash flood claims one in North Garo Hills

TURA: The flash floods that hit several parts of Garo Hills last week claimed a life as a  body of a woman was recovered on Sunday morning from Bajengdoba in North Garo Hills District.

According to sources, the body of one, Epbrilinna Marak (41), daughter of one Perensing Sangma was recovered at around 11:30 am from Medudam Village under Bajengdoba police station.

Sources further revealed that when the flooding began villagers from the area had taken shelter at Medudam Church of Jesus Christ which is located on high ground. It is being speculated that the victim along with others may have returned to her house to salvage whatever she could when she probably slipped and fell into the flood waters.

Immediately after the recovery of the body, the officer in-charge of Bajengdoba police station was informed. He  rushed to the spot and conducted necessary formalities. Relatives of the victim also informed EAC, Rangku Jude T Sangma who signed the order exempting post mortem.

Meanwhile, North Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, S C Sadhu has reportedly assured to take up the matter of ex-gratia payment to the victim’s family, with higher authorities.
