SHILLONG: The jurisdiction of the Section 110 of the Meghalaya Police Act,2010 has now been extended till District Headquarters and sub-divisional headquarters to enable the state police to deal with cases of public nuisance in rural areas of the state too.

Earlier, the jurisdiction of the aforesaid Section of the Act was confined to only municipal areas and a notification for extending the jurisdiction of the act was issued by the State Government   recently.

Extending the jurisdiction of the Act to even rural areas of the state would give Meghalaya police more teeth to deal   with cases of creating public nuisance and drinking.

As far as implementing the Act, Sadar Police Station is leading the race as the Police Station under the leadership of present Officer in charge has collected over Rs 50 lakhs in less than two years by imposing fines on accused who were booked under the section 110 of the Meghalaya Police Act,2010.
