HYC to hold meeting on ILP
MAWKYRWAT: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) will hold a public meeting in Ranikor on Saturday to highlight its 14-point demands, including inner line permit. KK Ryja, president of HYC Ranikor circle, said the meeting will be held at Photkroh market. “The objective is to highlight the 14-point charter of demands that the council has taken up with the government,” he said.

11 sordars for 2000 people in East Khasi Hills
SHILLONG: The Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong, Krang Pyllun has criticised the 11 Sordars of Krang village and downplayed their allegations of misappropriation of the MGNGREGA scheme. In a press conference, Erstep War stated that there has been a hue and cry over the boundary of the village and that the 11 sordars are looking after 2000 villagers.

Tura MP wishes ‘good luck’ to Indian football Squad
Tura: Tura Lok Sabha MP Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday extended his best wishes to the Indian squad for the Under-17 FIFA World Cup 2017. He interacted with the players at a felicitation programme held at New Delhi on Tuesday. “I am happy to interact with young players of the Indian squad and many of them are from the Northeastern states, particularly Manipur. It is a great sign that players from the region are coming out to demonstrate their talent in the field of football. I extend my best wishes and support to the Indian squad”, said Conrad. In the 21-member squad of the Indian team, eight players are from the North East, the MP asserted. Terming North East as a “powerhouse” for sports and particular football, Conrad said, “The players of the region need the right platform and exposure to excel and showcase their talent”. He lauded the efforts of state governments of Assam and Manipur for being able to put up the best infrastructure for football in the country. “Guwahati has emerged as the sport capital of North East India. It is a very positive sign that the government is extending its support to create adequate infrastructural support for the promotion of the game”, he added. Huge talent pool is available in the state of Meghalaya and Mizoram, where sports clubs have excelled in I-league. It calls for support from all stakeholders, so that India can get its best football talents from the region”, he added.

Safaigiri Award for Mawlynnong
SHILLONG: Mawlynnong, the cleanest village in Asia, has added another feather to its cap with Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu conferring the India Today Safaigiri Award 2017 on the East Khasi Hills hamlet. Mathew Khongsar, the executive member of Mawlynnong who received the award in New Delhi on Monday, said the people were proud of their village and that the award would inspire them to make Mawlynnong a better village. Khongsar said there has been a 15 to 20 per cent increase in the number of tourists to the village since last year and that it has become a little harder for them to manage the vehicles that come to the village every day. He said on an average, around 100 vehicles throng the village every day and the number went up to almost 500 vehicles per day during Durga Puja this year. However, with the help of local MLA Prestone Tynsong, the village authorities are now constructing a new parking lot.Khongsar said that as some people don’t understand the concept of the village and keep littering, it was hard for them to control them at times. “The village will take stern action against those who litter,” he added.

BJYM felicitates taekwondo students
SHILLONG: BJYM president Egenstar Kurkalang inaugurated the School Fete of St Francis Desale Secondary School, Laitkor on Tuesday along with BJYM state committee, Sanjib Dhar vice president, Nangkitbok Hoojon general secretary, Fedrick Rajee general Secretary and secretary Charelangki Shullai. Kurkalang also felicitated students for their achievement in Teakwondo Championship competition which was held here in July and September organised by the Meghalaya Taekwondo Association. The programme was attended by Arly Lyngdoh, Teakwando coach of the school among others.

Car theft in city
SHILLONG: Shillong police has arrested one person in connection with the stealing of a Bolero vehicle (AS-01GC-8177) from Mawlong Hat in the city recently. It was reported that on Monday, the stolen vehicle was recovered from Mukhep Ladrymbai. Police also arrested one Ram Bahadur Keshi. However, cases of stealing of vehicles were also reported from other parts of the state. On October 2, Rodingliana Momin lodged a complaint that unknown miscreants stole his motorcycle (ML-08C-4645) from his garage at New DC Colony, Williamnagar in East Garo Hills. In another case, Jaabin M Sangma lodged a complaint that on September 29 around 5.30 am, unknown miscreants stole his motorcycle (ML-08E-0754) from his residence at Balsrigittim in East Garo Hills.

School robbed of Rs 40,000
SHILLONG: Two theft cases have been reported in the city in the last couple of days. On October 2 around 5.40 pm, on opening the office of the Principal of Nepali Higher Secondary School, Lawjynriew, Nongthymmai cash of Rs. 40,000 was suspected to have been stolen during the Puja holidays. In a similar incident, Jilda Mary Kharkongor of Itshyrwat, Shillong lodged a complaint that on September 29, unknown miscreants broke into her grocery shop and stole Rs. 1,500 coins, one cell-phone and cigarettes.
